BarDown first came into existence 10 years ago, and within those early formative years we were joined by Corwin McCallum. At the time, we couldn’t have predicted the impact he would go on to have, both as a worker and as our friend.
Corwin was one of the creative minds behind the early direction of BarDown. What started as a website to celebrate the intersection of sport and culture has grown into a recognizable brand entrenched in hockey culture. With a focus on entertaining through the sport we all love, there may not be a better personification of this growth than Corwin himself.
While we’ve known Corwin for a long time, you likely first met him during the inception of BarDown quizzes. An absolute encyclopedia of random hockey knowledge, Corwin made the famous white BarDown couch his throne. Winning more quizzes than anyone else (by a mile) is one thing, but even more than that is the way he was able to connect with the viewer.
“I’m so humble.”
“Gretzky can’t raise the puck.”
“LEAFS LEGEND.”
These are a few of the Corwinisms that our viewers will no doubt recognize. But his impact went far beyond the absolute choke-hold he had on the BarDown quiz belt.
Corwin’s mind works different. While content creation can become cookie-cutter at times, Corwin always found a way to find a new angle. Here’s a look back at some of the times he’s made us laugh.
